Service bond and agreement for freshers
A service agreement asks you to stay for a set period — often 1 or 2 years — and may have a penalty if you leave early. Whether you should sign depends on the exact words on stamp paper, the penalty, the notice period and your plans. The right move is to read the offer letter, ask 3 short questions in the HR round, and decide on facts.
What the paper actually says
- It is on stamp paper or in the offer letter and is usually called a service agreement, training agreement or bond.
- Key lines to find: the period (for example 12, 24 or 60 months), the amount (for example ₹75,000 or ₹1 lakh), whether the penalty is flat or pro rata (reduces with time served), the notice period, and what counts as breach.
- Who pays for what: some agreements recover a training cost; some adjust the last settlement. Read every line before you sign.
What companies say on their own pages (October 2026, can change with the next drive)
| Company | What its own page says |
|---|---|
| Cognizant GenC | Its GenC programme page says “No service bonds” and describes the programme “without obligation”. |
| Wipro Turbo | 12-month service agreement of ₹75,000, pro rata, on its 2025 Turbo page. |
| Wipro WILP | 60-month training agreement on its 2025 WILP page (the M.Tech-linked track); leaving before 5 years means paying ₹75,000, pro rata. |
| Capgemini | Its 2022 engineering drive said candidates should be open to signing a “Service Level Agreement” at joining, without an amount; the current recruitment process page describes the steps but does not list a current bond amount. |
| TCS NQT | Its All India NQT hiring page (checked 20 October 2026) and its NQT 2026 notice do not describe a service bond in the eligibility section. |
| HCL / others | Varies by offer letter; not a single published rule. |
Sources, checked on 25 October 2026 unless noted: Cognizant’s GenC programme page, Wipro’s Turbo and WILP pages, Capgemini’s 2022 engineering drive and recruitment process, TCS’s NQT hiring page. For HCL and others, the offer letter is the source.
2 saal ka service bond sign karna chahiye kya HCL me?
Read the offer letter first. If the bond is 2 years, ask yourself:
- Do you want to stay for that long anyway? If yes, the bond changes little.
- Is the penalty flat or pro rata? A pro rata bond costs less if you leave near the end.
- What is the notice period and does the bond adjust for notice served?
- Can you talk to a senior who served the same bond last year about day-to-day reality?
Do not sign a blank or undated paper. Keep one signed copy.
How to ask in the HR round
Sample, in English (30 seconds)
I understand the company invests in training new joiners. I’m happy to commit for the period in the offer. Could you confirm — is the agreement on stamp paper, what is the penalty and is it pro rata, and what is the notice period?
Hinglish, the same idea
Main samajhti hoon ki company training par kaafi invest karti hai aur isliye commitment expect karti hai. Main is period ke liye ready hoon. Kya aap bata sakenge ki agreement stamp paper par hai ya offer me, penalty kitni hai aur pro rata hai ya nahi, aur notice period kya hai?
This sounds careful, not reluctant. Ask it after you say you are willing to stay.
Before you sign — checklist
- Read the offer letter and any separate agreement. If they differ, ask which one controls.
- Check: period, amount, pro rata, notice, breach definition, who keeps the signed copy.
- Ask HR your 3 questions on email as well, so the answer is in writing.
- Keep one original signed copy and a scanned copy.

Questions
2 saal ka service bond sign karna chahiye kya HCL me?
Read the offer letter and the separate agreement if any. Check the period, the penalty (flat vs pro rata), the notice period and what counts as breach. If you plan to stay for that period and the terms are clear on stamp paper, many freshers sign; if the paper is vague or blank, ask HR in writing before you sign.
Cognizant me 2 saal ka bond hai sign karna chahiye kya batao
As of 25 October 2026, Cognizant’s GenC programme page says “No service bonds” and describes the programme “without obligation”. For your drive, the offer letter is the source — read it and ask HR the three questions above.
Capgemini HR me bond ke liye kya bolu 2 saal ka bond hai
Say you are willing to stay for the period if the terms are clear. Then ask: is it on stamp paper, what is the penalty and is it pro rata, and what is the notice period. See the sample answer above in English and Hinglish.
Is a service bond enforceable?
This isn’t legal advice; it depends on the exact words and the facts. Under section 74 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, a court does not simply enforce the penalty written in the bond: it awards reasonable compensation, up to the amount named, and courts have often limited this to a cost the employer can show, such as training. Section 27 makes a promise not to work elsewhere after you leave void, but a minimum-service clause while you are employed is generally not treated as a restraint — in Vijaya Bank v. Prashant B. Narnaware (14 May 2025) the Supreme Court upheld a bank’s 3-year, ₹2 lakh minimum-service clause. For your letter, take advice from a lawyer or your college placement officer.
What if I get a better offer later?
Say why you want to stay where you are. See “What if you get a better offer later?” in HR interview questions for freshers.
